‘INDIA NEEDS HELP’
Persecution in Orissa, India November 3, 2008
The state of Orissa is on fire since august 23, 2008. Mobs allegedly comprising of Hindu activists BJP, VHP, Bajrang Dal and RSS have killed several people and attacked scores of churches across the state since Monday August 25, 2008.
In the past few weeks, Christians in Orissa have been murdered, butchered, killed, cut in pieces and burnt alive. The dead bodies are lying on the ground. People are afraid to touch the bodies. According to the memorandum submitted by the Christians in Bhuvaneswar (Orissa) to the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister mentions that:
553 christians lost their lives
4014 houses were burnt
57 churches were destroyed
33 adventist believers have been killed.
From the president of Orissa conference – Adventist Pastor Jesurathnam
Christians in Orissa are being killed, burnt alive and beaten to death.
The Hindus are becoming more and more violent and unruly and committing gruesome killings. One of our Adventist pastor’s throat was slit and his mother was burnt alive. Mr. Garwin McNeilus built a beautiful and modern building. A mob of eighteen or so went to this orphanage with crowbars and other dangerous tools. They broke open the gate and vandalized the building. Another orphanage was also attacked. The director and the children ran away and they are hiding in the forest. Today one pastor was caught and his head was cut off. Thousands of people are hiding. Pr. Jesurathanam and the other Section officers locked themselves in their homes and have not come out for a week. They are living in constant fear. Many have lost their lives; kindly pray for them that they might be delivered from this inhuman situation. I hope the government will soon do something to put an end to this killings. Please pray for these Christians in Orissa.
The violence was triggered by the murder of Swami Laxmanand Sarawati, a senior VHP leader and four of his disciples on Saturday midnight while he was in the restroom. The Swami was the face of the Sangh Parivar’s tribal conversion programme. The Maoists have claimed responsibility for the killings of the Swami and his four disciples. The Sangh Parivar alleges that Christian groups are behind the killings.
Jeypore Adventist school
A mob comprising 300 people entered into Jeypore School to disturb the children and the school activities. The principal Mr. Arun Ponda was out of station. His wife sensing something fishy about the group entering the campus, called the police station for rescue operations. As the police vans approached the school campus, the mob disbursed throwing stones at the school building breaking windows and tin sheets.
Adventist pastor Samuel Naik slain by slitting his throat
Samuel Naik ages 48 years, working as a volunteer for Orissa Section since 1990 in Bakingia, Phulbani District. He was a committed worker of the church. A group of people entered Samuel Naik’s house at 12 noon and threatened him. While Samuel defended the church, one person from the mob cut his throat and raped his wife (she ran away to the jungle later on). We do not have any information about his children. Romani Naik (mother of Samuel Naik). At 4.00 pm, after the afternoon’s incidents, the VHP mob once again entered the house of Samuel Naik. At that time several people were offering prayers. By seeing the mob the members ran into the forest to save their lives. The mother of Samuel Naik who was in her seventies could not run. They caught her and burned her alive in the house. While she was in flames, the belongings in the house caught fire. Kasiben, aged 65 years, was a strong member of our church in Raikia town. He was burnt to death.
Pastor Ramesh Samal – No food to eat, no water
Ramesh Samal is a local pastor in Raikia town. Sensing the disturbances of the Christians, the pastor took all of his believers into the forests. They are in the forest for the last four days. No food to eat, no water, no milk for the children, two children died of starvation. In the absence of Ramesh Samal in his house, the mob ransacked the house, threw all the belongings outside and set the house on fire.
Jeypore School – second attack
The Jeypore school in Koraput district was ransacked by a group of people on Satuday afternoon. They broke the wall of the main gate and entered the campus. The mob entered into the hostels and staff quarters, beat and threatened the staff. They threw the hostel cots and staff’ belonging out and set them on fire. The mob was on the campus for three hours. As the mob entered the girls’ hostel they picked up a girl and threw her against the wall. The mob entered one of the staff quarter’s house and made attempts to set the house on fire while the family was inside the house. The family escaped because of the intervention of the boys. The mob threatened the principal and the staff, asking that they vacate the campus. The staff and the students are in the state of shock and tears.

The joy of christmas and the tragedy of Tsunami
Tsunami foretold in the Bible
The Bible is more up-to-date than the morning newspaper! The Bible gives us tomorrow’s news today. Praise the Lord because we are the “children of light.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5. While the Western nations joyfully concluded the celebration of the 2005 Christmas season, the so called heathen nations were reeling in the ruins by the tragedy of Tsunami immediately after Christmas. What a contrast. As I woke upon the morning of December 26, 2005, to contemplate on the destruction and devastation of Tsunami, my mind was directed to the book of Luke, where Jesus predicts Tsunami: “the sea and the waves of roaring.” Luke 21:25.
What is the next prediction of Jesus?
The Powers of the Heaven Shall be Shaken
As I continued to read further, Christ predicts the next major event: “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” Luke 21:26. What does it mean? “And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; and the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.” Revelation 8:8,9. What a great tragedy. The Bible predicts that an asteroid will hit the ocean in the near future.
What is next? – The blessed hope of His coming
“And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” Luke 21:27,28.
Tsunami Memorial Church – Chennai Marina Beach
Chennai Marina Beach is one of the longest beaches in Asia stretching across more than 40 miles. We held meetings in Sabbath afternoon right on Marina Beach; close to 70 people came for the meetings. We sang songs and praised Jesus and blessed His holy name. Pastor Devadass Monickam organized the meetings. Under Pastor Devadass leadership, about 50 precious souls were baptized; and by the grace of God, we were able to build a church for His glory. Praise the Lord.
Tsunami Relief Work in Nagercoil and Kulachel
We gave out food and Bibles to Tsunami Victims.
Voice of Prophecy Rally in Bathra, Kannada
After a long lapse of more than 30 years, a voice of prophecy rally was organized in Bathra by the Three Angels Medical Ministry and the Voice of Prophecy Department of Bangalore Metro Section. About 50 voice of prophecy graduates came for the meetings. We distributed Bibles and Great Controversy books for the graduates.
Reaching the non-Adventist pastors with the three angels message
About 70 non-Adventist pastors who live in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, came to hear the three angels message. When the Sabbath message was presented, they listened with rapt attention. We helped some of the pastors who were used to drinking and smoking and we gave them our health message. They have requested three more meetings next year. Praise the Lord.
Arise and Shine Laymen Seminar
About 40 laymen attended the ‘Arise and Shine’ laymen seminar. They were taught the three angels message and health. Indeed “We have come to a time when every member of the church should take hold of medical missionary work.” 7 Testimonies, p. 62.
